We are excited to introduce our new optometrist, Dr. Sara Harter, who is assuming ownership of Blue Ridge Eye Associates. With over 20 years of experience in comprehensive eye care, Dr. Harter brings a passion for patient-centered service and a commitment to helping individuals see and live better. Dr. Diane Cowger is retiring and selling her practice after 33 years of dedicated service. She considers it a privilege and an honor to have served the Harrisonburg community, and sincerely thanks you for your loyalty and support.
Dr. Harter received her Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry and Master of Public Health from Salus University. Prior to assuming ownership of Blue Ridge Eye Associates, she practiced in VA and SC, where she built a reputation for compassionate care and clinical excellence. She has also led multiple international optometric programs, focusing on curriculum development and implementation, hands-on training for providers, and project management of donor-funded eye health initiatives.
Dr. Harter is thrilled to be part of the Harrisonburg community and looks forward to upholding the tradition of quality eye care to best serve our patients.

We are happy to announce that Wally will continue to serve your eyeglass needs. Wally Clark has been our operations manager and ophthalmic clinical assistant since 1999. Wally assists patients with frame and lens selection, ophthalmic testing, contact lens training, and scheduling and insurance questions. He skillfully performs precise eyeglass finishing in our high-tech on-site lab, allowing us to complete many eyeglass prescriptions within one business day.

Eyeglass Prescriptions Filled, many same-day or next-business-day
We realize that many people need new eyeglasses quickly. We offer same-day or next-business-day service, including regular and non-glare plastic lenses, on many single-vision (not bifocal or progressive) eyeglass prescriptions at no extra charge. We also are able to custom-order most eyeglass prescriptions that we do not have on-site. Let us make you look good and see great!

We are accepting and welcoming new patients (as well as our established patients). In response to numerous inquiries due to the departure or retirement of several local eyecare providers, we are happy to accept new patients. If you would like, you can go to the Patient Forms page above, print out and complete the two-page form (except the insurance information) and bring it with you to your office visit. The only insurance we accept directly is traditional original Medicare and some Medicare Advantage plans (PPO not HMO); please do not complete the insurance information as we will check your insurance and ID cards when you arrive for your appointment. If you have an alternative, privately administered Medicare Advantage plan (private insurance, not traditional original Medicare administered by CMS), please call ahead to see if we are in-network with your plan.
